Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-64 in Norfolk near Granby Street that killed a female passenger in one vehicle.
Virginia State Police said the crash happened around 2:45 a.m., in the construction area of the highway, when the driver of a Ford Fusion switched lanes suddenly and veered into a jersey barrier on the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected and went into the left-hand lane, which was closed, and hit a parked Sweeper Truck.
The male driver of the Ford was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the female passenger died on impact and the driver of the sweeper truck was uninjured.
Police shut down the westbound lanes of I-64 for about five hours to conduct the investigation and remove the vehicles, police reported.
